Red Bull CIRCLE OF BALANCE 2012.9.8.SAT - KYOTO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTER, EVENT HALL - 0PEN 17:00 / START 19:00
BMX originally started with off-road racing and in addition to that, the riders soon began to branch out by using their bikes for tricks. That was the beginning of BMX-Freestyle. There are various categories of BMX-Freestyle, and one of them is called "BMX-Flatland." For BMX-Flatland, riders use pegs (parts which are installed on the front and rear axle) which are needed to balance and control the bike to execute the tricks, which commonly involve spinning and acrobatics. The very first Red Bull Circle of Balance was held in 2002 at Oberhausen, Germany with 18 top riders from all over the world. Its 1-on-1 format introduced an new style of battle and raised the bar in terms of what a top competition should look like. The high production standards and magnitude of the event immediately brought the Red Bull Circle of Balance to the forefront of top BMX-Flatland competitions and put it on the map internationally. Japanese rider Ryoji Yamamoto took first place in Oberhausen in 2004 and with Japan subsequently hosting the 2007 event, this further demonstrated Japan’s commitment to the scene. Japanese riders are known for their high level of riding and technical prowess. With the largest BMX-Flatland scene in the world, Japan will once again host the Red Bull Circle of Balance and aims to bring forth a new set of innovations to continue developing the sport.
